George Akyen Ghanney, also known as Kwadwo, was born to Thomas Ghanney and Florence Ndom, on May 5, 1952, in Winneba, Central Region, Ghana. He attended A.M.E. A/B Zion School in Winneba, Ghana . After graduating, George joined the Ghana Police Force and served for two years. George served with the Ghana Public Works Department. Later, he joined the Black Star Line which was the national shipping corporation of Ghana. He embarked into New York in the United States and resided there since 1974, where he served as a clerk with Kings County Hospital in the psychiatric department for many years.
George Akyen Ghanney, died on July 4, 2023 at 9:30 PM ET in Brooklyn, New York in the United States.
George spent the past few years, in the presense and on the phone with his daughters, grand daughter, brother and sister-in-law in New York.
George is survived by his daughters - Nancy Ghanney and Kathy Ghanney, USA; granddaughter - Naomi Ghanney, USA, and grandson - Thomas Ghanney, Ghana.
He is survived by his Brother Henry A. Ghanney Sr. and wife - Sister-in-Law Rev. Dr. Donna Ghanney, USA and Sisters - Elizabeth Ghanney, Ghana and Charity Quartey, Ghana.
He is survived by his Nephews - Rev. Samuel Forson, Fred French, Dan French, Samuel Ghanney, Henry Kobina Ghanney, Jr., Kofi Sam, Eric Ghanney, Payne Dadson,, Kofi Ghanney, Dr. Robert Ghanney, Kofi Ghanney; and Nieces - Joyce Forson, Olivia Quartey, Araba Quartey, Cynthia Annnan-Nunoo, Akos Osei, Emelia Cobbah, Anna French, Sarah Abeka, Yaa Baiden, Florence Opare, Aba Ghanney, Step -Niece- - Mrs. Vivian Afreh, and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunties, and uncles.
George Akyen Ghanney is preceded in death by his father - Thomas Ghanney of Winneba, Ghana; mother - Florence Ndom of Winneba, Ghana; Sisters - Adwoa Quartey, Lucy Quartey, Alberta Ghanney, Katherine Ghanney; Brothers - Thomas Ghanney, Isaac Ghanney, and Robert Ghanney, Sr.
George Akyen Ghanney will be greatly missed as a father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle, friend, and confidant.
